The valley to the east of mine is accessible by a
long, bumpy
dirt road, far from cell phone service or anything else useful.
It used to have a "road closed" sign even when it was open:
the county's way of keeping out people who didn't know what they
were signing up for.
After bad storms, when conditions led officials to actually revoke access,
the message on the sign silently changed from false to true:
instantaneously effected transition-at-a-distance, kind of like what
happened in England this week as described by the BBC:
The Crown passes immediately, imperceptibly, invisibly to the new monarch.
Physicist John Bell, 1987:
...there are things which do go faster than light.
British sovereignty is the classical example.
When the Queen dies in London (may it long be delayed)
the Prince of Wales, lecturing on modern architecture in Australia,
becomes instantaneously King.

Great dangling modifier in a friend's reminiscence of his dog:
I always told him how handsome he was.
Except once when he swatted a Riedel wine glass off a table while watching an
MLB playoff game with his tail.
